The route
Starting from Pomarance, the GeoGravel Tuscany 2024 "The Bold" route is divided into two loops: the first goes to the Valdera area before returning to Pomarance, while the second follows the Sunday "Lungo" route. From Pomarance, the route heads towards Saline and then climbs to the enchanting village of Volterra. From there the route continues to Lajatico, the furthest point on the route, before descending towards Pomarance passing through Orciatico and Montecatini Val di Cecina.
In Pomarance, the riders will stop in the square to get a stamp and, if they wish, they can take a break at the GeoParty - to rest and set off again the next morning - or they can continue immediately along the "Lungo" route to complete the most demanding and fascinating of the GeoGravel Tuscany routes.
From Pomarance, the adventure dives into the heart of the Natural Reserve of Monterufoli - Caselli, along dirt tracks that perfectly embody the spirit of off-road riding, stretching for kilometers through untamed wilderness. After this journey through unspoilt nature, the route continues towards Casale Marittimo and then Bibbona, a village with medieval roots, where the salty air of the Tyrrhenian Sea can already be felt.
The return trip is another complete immersion in gravel roads, winding through the wild Mediterranean scrubland that characterizes this corner of Tuscany. After passing through woods dotted with the occasional farmhouse or estate, the route passes through Canneto and heads towards Monterotondo Marittimo. From there it climbs back up to Sasso Pisano and returns to Pomarance.
