Gravel lovers will be able to challenge themselves by choosing between four adventurous routes to fully experience the emotions of the Metalliferous Hills
Nature, history, culture, and energy: the routes of GeoGravel Tuscany - Le Strade Grigie have been designed to immerse participants in the wild charm of the Metalliferous Hills. The event, which starts and finishes in Il Piazzone in Pomarance, is scheduled for the weekend of 31 May–1 June. Participants can choose from four different routes - Corto, Medio, Lungo and Ultra - varying distance and in elevation gain. Each one is a journey through breathtaking landscapes, where all the wonders of the geothermal area merge into a unique experience.
Corto (46 km - 1000 m d+)
Short but intense, the Corto route takes gravel riders on a journey through the Grey Roads, among woods and geothermal landscapes. With around fifteen kilometres of exciting dirt roads, the route passes through the Monterufoli nature reserve and the villages of Libbiano and Serrazzano. A unique opportunity to immerse yourself in the medieval history and mysterious atmosphere of the most authentic Tuscany.
Medio (77,2 km - 1480 m d+) The Medio route is a challenge that leads to the discovery of secluded corners and villages that seem to have stepped out of time. With almost twenty-five kilometres of dirt roads, the route cuts through woods and olive groves to reach the picturesque village of Querceto, where history and winemaking tradition intertwine. The journey then continues towards Larderello, an experience that will captivate gravel riders with its unique scenery and the power of geothermal energy.
Lungo (135 km - 2780 m d+)
The Lungo route is a truly romantic challenge between wild nature and the most demanding cycling. With more than 45 kilometres of unpaved roads, the route crosses nature reserves and the unexplored heart of the Val di Cecina. Bolgheri, famous for its vineyards, and exceptional wine, is the central point of the route, offering a tasty break that celebrates Tuscan tradition. After a refreshment stop at Sasso Pisano, the route continues towards Pomarance for a final challenging stretch before the adventure comes to an end.
Ultra (208 km - 4360 m d+)
The Ultra route is for the boldest gravel riders, ready to take on 208 kilometres of pure off-road adventure. Starting from Pomarance on Saturday afternoon, the route is divided into two loops, and the first takes riders to Siena, before returning to Pomarance with the opportunity to attend the GeoParty. The second loop follows the Lungo route through breathtaking scenery, historic vineyards and nature reserves such as the Berignone Reserve. Over 100 kilometres of dirt roads complete the experience, combining the challenge of gravel with the beauty of Tuscany at its most unspoilt. Each itinerary is a journey through breathtaking landscapes, where all the charms of the geothermal area come together in a unique experience. GeoGravel Tuscany - The Grey Roads awaits gravel riders from 31 May to 1 June, an unmissable event for those who want to discover Tuscany by bike in its most authentic and unspoilt form.
